50 Ways to Make Money From Traffic to Your Blog

Post

Or, How to Turn Your Passion Into Profits Using a Web Site

Have you ever wondered how in the world anyone makes money blogging?

The simplest way to monetize web site traffic is to use social media and blogging to attract the target audience most interested in your services or products, as we’ve done here.

Unless you found it in a search engine listing, you likely saw a link to this post on either Twitter, Facebook or Google Plus, were intrigued by the title, clicked the link, and here you are on our website, where you can see New England Multimedia’s services spelled out clearly in the sidebar: WordPress web sites, video production, on-hold marketing, and social media consultation.

But there are dozens of other creative ways to earn considerable income from a blog.

Two of my long-time favorite bloggers, Darren Rowse of ProBlogger and Andrew Warner of Mixergy, combine multiple streams of revenue to earn income from the considerable traffic they attract to their websites. Both Problogger and Mixergy provide such valuable content to their readers (and viewers, in Andrew’s case), they’ve become wildly popular resources for their target audiences: ProBlogger for blogging professionals, and Mixergy for entrepreneurs.

Their popularity results in considerable traffic to their web sites, where they then monetize that traffic by selling advertising space, becoming affiliates for products and services they’re willing to put their names behind, and creating their own premium products and services. Books, courses, premium memberships — those are the big money-makers for experts like Darren and Andrew.

Darren shared two really helpful Blogging-for-Profit posts on Google Plus:

1) Methods Bloggers Use to Make Money Blogging: MindMap”

2) 13 Options for Bloggers to Make Money with Advertising on their Blogs.”

Darren and Andrew are my Blogging Heroes.

Then there’s Bargain Babe. Julia Scott quit her job as a journalist to become a for-profit blogger, and now “shares strategies, coupons, and inspiration to save on everyday expenses” with her readers. Julia’s website has become such a popular resource for savvy shoppers, she’s been able to turn her sizable web traffic into profits through several revenue streams.

At Newport Interactive Marketers, a free monthly educational and networking event in Newport, RI, Julia gave the audience a comprehensive presentation on monetizing websites, offering more than 50 possible revenue streams for blogs. You can see the slideshow here:

This is extremely great! hopefully soon I can do this with my blog site. Thank you for this very informative post.

Elpidio, thanks for stopping by and reading, and much success to you! Just try one step at a time if it’s overwhelming. As long as you have a direction and goal you’re headed for, putting one foot in front of the other will eventually get you to where you’re going, even on a blog!

Extremely professional and comprehensive. You need to write a book…Really! Great Job!

      Thank-you, Sandra!

I admire anyone who uses SlideShare — always suspect about stealthy peeps who need to inject something new in their own decks!

Shouldn’t that be Yin Yang — I’m just askin’ as I thought it was this over her headline? I always get confused.

Monetization? Not sure I can…MUST consider.

    • Michelle Quillin08-25-11

      Jayme, you’re not confused!

But what do you mean about SlideShare?

  4. Shakirah Dawud08-23-11

Bookmarked for when I get enough traffic to monetize, thank you! Never heard of those blog ad sites, and they could perhaps bring in the traffic I’m looking for in order to monetize.

    • Michelle Quillin08-23-11

      Hi, Shakirah!

You don’t need to wait for traffic to your blog before you start monetizing.

The products, services, eBooks, courses, and other income-producers can actually bring IN more traffic! You can also sell advertising space to businesses who’ll appeal to your target audience, if you’re interested in that. And you can always become an affiliate seller for a product, service, or course you’re willing to put your name behind!
